Student Organizations

Join a student group and you could perform music, play sports, celebrate ethnic and cultural traditions, produce publications, debate politics, serve the community, read academic journals, and more.

There are more than 300 student groups on campus, and they welcome new members. Some groups are open to the entire University, and others draw only from students in a graduate department or professional school.

For an updated list of University-wide groups, look on the Web at studentactivities.uchicago.edu, call the Office of the Reynolds Club and Student Activities (ORCSA) at 2-8787, or stop by the Student Activities Center on the lower level of the Reynolds Club.

Starting your own student organization

If you don't find the group you're looking for, you can start your own. All you need are seven friends willing to be active members, a completed Recognized Student Organization (RSO) application, an adviser, and by-laws. After you go through the process to become an RSO, your group is official and is eligible for funds allocated by Student Government.

You can use the funds to plan events, rent equipment, or bring speakers to campus. The Student Activities Center in the Reynolds Club supports the 300 RSOs on campus by providing access to fax machines, copiers, and a computer-graphics lab for creating posters, flyers, and Web pages.

For details, stop by the Student Activities Center in the lower level of Reynolds Club or contact ORSCA at 2-8787.
