The dean and religious life staff take a lead in addressing the complex and often contradictory issues related to practiced religion on campus and in society at large, working with colleagues in the University and wider community to shape a broad and inclusive interreligious life for the 21st century.
In particular, Rockefeller offers:
- Interreligious programs emphasizing integrative spiritual practice and community action
- Sunday morning Christian worship in a cathedral-like setting, complemented by music from the Rockefeller Chapel Choir, the magnificent E. M. Skinner organ, and the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Carillon
- Dedicated prayer spaces for Hindu and Muslim students
- Meditation spaces for Buddhists and others interested in experiencing meditation and contemplative prayer
- Restorative yoga and drumming circles
- Shared meeting space for student religious organizations
- Music, theater, and other arts programs; choral presentations from the Rockefeller, Motet, and University choirs; carillon and organ lessons and performance
- A place simply to be quiet for a while or to seek inspiration
The University of Chicago is home to a wide variety of student religious organizations. Professional religious advisers of major traditions are available to work with students, including those based at the Newberger Hillel and Chabad Jewish Centers, and at the Catholic (Calvert House), Episcopal (Brent House), and Lutheran (Augustana) chaplaincies on campus.
For full details on these and other spiritual opportunities on campus, see rockefeller.uchicago.edu. You can also contact religious life staff at Rockefeller at 2-2100 or the Office of the Reynolds Club and Student Activities at 2-8787.
