You may run into bureaucratic hassles. You may be aggrieved. Someone canceled your this; you're being billed for that; there was a miscommunication; your check is missing. These things can be serious or, even if not serious, distracting and annoying.
Or you may have interpersonal difficulties with other students or with faculty members, which can range in seriousness from a mild irritant to something that might interfere with your success at the University.
What should you do? Do the obvious thing first, and talk to the person in charge. If that doesn't fix things, go to the director, dean, or vice president who is that person's boss. Your College adviser will do what he or she can to help you sort things out. But if you still don't think the system is working, talk to the student ombudsperson.
