The University system encompasses five libraries. The Library's Web site offers information about the Library's collections and services, along with access to a growing array of electronic resources. Reference librarians are ready to lend a hand when you need assistance with your research. As specialists in finding information, they can help you locate the resources you need for your assignments. They can also teach you how to use the Library effectively, providing tips for searching library databases and guidance on evaluating the information you find on the Web. Bibliographers, who are specialists in information resources for specific subject areas, are also available to provide advanced research assistance.

Did you know that each class in the College has its own librarian? Each class librarian maintains a Web site designed specifically for his or her class, which provides resources and information to meet the research needs of that class. The site provides details on how to contact the class librarian, as well as an "FYI" section with reminders about special events, upcoming due dates, new services, and training sessions.

The University's largest library, the Reg houses extensive collections in the social sciences and humanities. Study and work spaces, print reference materials, and numerous public computers are located on the east side of the building. There are also seminar rooms for group study and lockers you can rent. The circulating collections are kept in open-stack shelving on the west side of floors 2–5 and the entire B-level. Regenstein also is home to several unique collections—the Special Collections Research Center, which houses and provides access to rare books, manuscripts, and the University archives; the Chicago Jazz Archive; the map collection; the recordings collectionsl and the video/DVD collection. There's a coffee shop, Ex Libris, on the A-level.

Harper Memorial Library Commons opened to the College in autumn 2009. A 24-hour study space featuring a new late-night student café, USITE computers, a library resource desk, and collaborative and independent study locations, the Library Commons serves as a bridge between South and North Campus.

The largest science library, Crerar, includes more than 1.4 million volumes covering the physical and biological sciences, clinical and experimental medicine, and the history of science and technology.Fifty USITE computers are located on the first level.

Joe and Rika Mansueto Library

The University of Chicago Library is the only top research library in North America acting to keep its entire collection on campus for the next 20 years. The Mansueto Library, designed by renowned architect Helmut Jahn, will provide on-campus storage for an additional 3.5 million volumes, bringing the Library system's total capacity to 11 million print volumes when full. The library will feature an underground automated storage and retrieval system, conservation and digital technology laboratories, and a magnificent grand reading room under a soaring, elliptical glass dome.
