Do you wonder what your four years at the College will be like? Do you see yourself talking to faculty about their career paths? Are you curious about what Chicago alumni do in the "real world?" Can you imagine yourself as a fourth-year right before graduation? During your time at the College, you will be able to experience all of this and more with your class. There are many ways to stay connected to your class throughout your four years. You should make frequent visits to your class Web site (classof20XX.uchicago.edu), where you will find a bulletin board and links to useful resources, as well as information on upcoming class programs and events.
First-year class
The Orientation will give you an initial taste of the academic, extracurricular, and social life of the College. Comprised primarily of meetings, fairs, workshops, and the occasional placement exam, O-Week is designed both to ease the adjustment into College life and to excite you about your coming years here. Join your classmates in January at Venture to Adventure, a program designed to explore your summer opportunities.
Second- and third-year classes
"Taking the Next Step" challenges you as a second- or third-year student to look forward in both your academic and personal pursuits by developing relationships with College alumni who have come before you. Extend your understanding and expand your network as you prepare for life beyond the College with panel discussions on topics ranging from business options to nonprofits and social change. The alumni who participate represent more than 20 different industries.
Fourth-year class
You are invited to reward yourself through celebrations (both academic and social) during Senior Week. Activities typically include barbecues, Chicago architecture tours, a baseball game, and outings to such places as Six Flags Great America and comedy and night clubs. The week ends with the baccalaureate ceremony, which includes the Remains of Education address (a bookend to the Aims of Education address) and a dessert reception at the Museum of Science and Industry.
